NOTA, WINNERS OF NBC'S "THE SING-OFF" JOINS A CAPPELLA GROUPS TO FIGHT ALZHEIMER’S 3 Day A cappella Music Festival Raises Eyebrows and Money For Charity
RESTON, VA – March 5, 6, 7, 2010 – Nota, winners of NBC's "The Sing-Off" and over 100 of the best professional a cappella singers from around the world will take the stage at South Lakes High School for “SingStrong”. The event consists of 4 Concerts and 20 masterclasses and features nothing but the human voice. 100% of the event profits go towards the Alzheimer’s Association and local music programs. Styles will include pop, jazz, doo-wop, Armenian folk, rock, reggae-tone, beatbox and more, all performed completely a cappella. Many audience members may have trouble believing that the sounds are completely vocal. Groups will use only their voices to perform leads, harmonies and to vocally imitate a virtual orchestra of sounds –including jazz trumpet, classical strings, distorted electric guitar and a full drum set –all without instruments of any kind. The SingStrong 8PM Friday Night Concert, “A cappella Idol,” is an a cappella competition in the style of American Idol. Celebrity judges give live feedback. First place is $1,000 and audience members get to vote using text messaging in real time. Competing groups include 4 THE RECORD, Classic Sounds, The Red States, Tonic and Gin, Voices of Truth, Sunday Afternoon, Euphonism, Snowday and others. The SingStrong 8PM Saturday Night Main Event Concert is a fast-paced sampler of the world’s greatest a cappella groups featuring Puerto Rican powerhouse Nota (winner of NBC's "The Sing-Off"), Ball In the House, NYC beatboxer Masai Electro (recently featured on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show"), winners of the original National Oreo Cookie Jingle Contest, Blue Jupiter, Austrian reggae-tone singer, Fii, Amenian folk music trio, Zulal and more. There are also discount matinee concerts on Saturday and Sunday at 2pm, a High School level competition, free private coachings and a charity auction to benefit the Alzheimer's Association. Beginning at 10AM on Saturday and Sunday, SingStrong will present more than 20 master classes on such topics as producing a CD, Rockstar101, starting an a cappella group, beatboxing, copyright law, and musical arranging. These classes are designed to help anyone interested in a cappella take their skills to the next level. “Where else can you find an audience giving a standing ovation to both urban street performers and classically trained singers in the same show?” asked Jonathan Minkoff, the producer for the all-vocal festival. “Not only is the music incredibly creative, but knowing that all the artists waive their fees to help fight Alzheimer’s is deeply moving” said South Lakes High School Choral Director, Rita Gigliotti. “My students are inspired both musically and personally. It's hard to believe we get to have this much fun for such a great cause!” Tickets range from $10 - $65. Discount tickets and complete info at www.SingStrong.org. # # # |
