Greetings!
My name is Marty Gasper- Production Designer and Engineer for SingStrong! In addition to my production involvement with SingStrong, I am a freelance a cappella-sound specialist and perform as beatboxer/bass and business manager for Blue Jupiter. With over 15 years of contemporary a cappella live-sound experience, my goal for SingStrong is to provide sound reinforcement that not just packs a deep, bass-thumping punch, but also allows the most discerning a cappella performer an enjoyable, stress-free, über-statisfying live-sound experience.
We've all been there, right? How many times have you told your sound guy "We're not your typical a cappella group..." "Make us sound like a band..." "More bass..." I know your pleas. I've been there on both ends - performer and engineer. And while, I don't claim to have all the answers, tricks, or tools at my disposal, you can rest easy knowing that we've gone out of our way to ensure that SingStrong is one of the best-equipped a cappella music festival in the country.
Below you'll find a breakdown of our gear, with geek-speak specifics. The summary is as follows: 8 Hand-held wireless Mics 1 Guitar-transmitter (anyone use throat-mics?) 2 Large-Diaphragm Condenser Area Mics Front of House Speakers with 4) 18-inch subwoofers (plenty loud, plenty bass) 2 types of Octave doubling effects 4 Stage monitors, 2 side-fill monitors (monitor mix will be the same as what is in the house) Yamaha Digital Mixer with scene recall (what we set up in sound check, will be the same every time you take the stage)
All performing groups should email me the answers the following questions as completely as possible, giving as much detail as you can. If you have an official Tech Rider - please forward that to me as well. Please reply by February 14, 2009 or sooner!
Name of your group: Description of your group (pop/rock, barbershop, choir, jazz): Names of the performers in your group AND the part they generally sing: Does each member of the group use a hand-held microphone? Does your group use area mics? Do you usually perform with Octave Effects on the bass singer? Do you usually perform with Octave Effects on the VP?
Do you usually perform with mic stands?
Any special requests or important facts I should know? (i.e. - Marty sings bass and drums at the same time, but also speaks sometimes, and plays the pan-flute during our set).
